Caregiver Love is the Best Love

Each one of our employees knows that resident safety is the number one priority and often requires them to act fast. This rang true for Wellness Director Michelle Hatfield when she played an instrumental role in saving a resident’s life.

A resident at Independence Village of Plymouth had fallen in his apartment and hit his head. Michelle knew that this particular resident was on an irreversible blood thinner medication and was quickly losing blood from his head wound. Michelle was able to hold pressure on his head, which eventually needed 14 staples to secure, until EMS arrived.

Michelle was able to act quickly to keep the resident conscious and hold pressure on his wound to minimize the bleeding. This resident’s son told the team that if his dad were still living alone at the time, he most likely wouldn’t have survived.

As this resident was recovering in the hospital, his son had to be out of the country, so two Resident Aides, Courtney and Bobinka, visited him so he wouldn’t feel lonely. This act of kindness was so great that the resident’s son stopped in after returning to the country just to tell the team how much it meant to him that Courtney and Bobinka visited his dad in his absence. He also mentioned that moving his dad into Independence Village of Plymouth was one of the best decisions their family ever made.
